How to use
  1. Pick a location — Choose a coastal spot from the dropdown above, or go straight to /tide/location-slug for that spot's own page (e.g. Gaomei Wetlands, Longdong, Jinzun).
  2. Read the tide cards — High tide and low tide times and heights are the first thing to check — they decide whether it's safe to go into the water, walk the tidal flats, or surf.
  3. Check the location-specific notes — Things like the Gaomei boardwalk's opening hours, a dive spot's slack-water window, or surf conditions only appear on that location's own page — scroll down after switching locations.
FAQ

Should I surf on a rising or falling tide?

It depends on the break. Beach breaks usually work best from mid to high tide; reef or shallow breaks are better avoided at very low tide to prevent hitting the bottom. Combine that day’s tide times with the wave card above.

What wave height is good for surfing?

Beginners are safest with steady small waves of ~0.5–1 m; advanced surfers can take on 1.5 m and up. Beyond height, a longer period and offshore wind give cleaner waves. Always watch for rip currents and surf within your ability.

Surf Conditions & Tide

The wave card above shows live wave height, direction, period and wind-wave data — your first check for whether today is surfable. Generally a wave height of ~0.8–2 m, a longer period and offshore wind give the cleanest waves.

Tide also shapes the break: most beach breaks work better from mid to high tide, while reef breaks are best avoided at very low tide to prevent hitting the bottom. Read this together with the tide times above.
