Chausuyama Highlands Parking Lot 4 about 68.1 km from central Nagoya (straight line) Open at night Remote

Site

The Okumikawa tourism council (Aichi) says that free stargazing should use Parking Lot 4, which is open 24 hours. Lot 2 is the venue of the monthly Star Café Tenkuu event and is not the lot for free stargazing. The Kyukamura Chausuyama Kogen lodge also says day visitors use Lot 4, so the lodge's own lots should be left to its guests. Whether the opening changes during special events or snow is not stated, so check with the operator before you go. No official coordinate was found for Lot 4 itself. The pin marks the Kyukamura lodge, about a 5-minute walk from the lot, so navigation is off.

Sky: darker (satellite night-light estimate)

The VIIRS nighttime-light estimate puts this area much darker than central Nagoya. Lighting around the lot itself has not been confirmed on site.

Facilities: parking

Open horizon: overhead. Which directions are open from the lot has not been confirmed, so only overhead is listed.

Good for

bright constellations, meteor showers, Milky Way, wide-field astrophotography

Safety and notes

  • Remote: a long one-way drive from the city — plan an overnight stay rather than a same-night return.

In winter the roads carry snow and ice, and the operator asks drivers to carry winter tyres or chains. Deer and other wildlife live on the plateau, so drive slowly at night. Do not move to a lodging or closed car park. No rules were found for night lighting, idling or noise at Lot 4, so follow the signs on site.
