Spring tides often occur near new and full moon, with a larger difference between high and low water and potentially stronger flow during the middle of the turn. Neap tides are more common near first and last quarter. Local current is not set by astronomical tide alone: wind, swell, seabed shape, and narrow harbor entrances all alter what divers encounter.
